Visualization Drill

This drill is to optimize the effectiveness of the shot you are trying to hit. With this drill, the main takeaway is that when you try your hardest to visualize the shot you want to hit, you can still see your visualization right before you take the club back to swing. Then all you must do in order to successfully hit your golf shot is think about the visual you just had and send the ball down your starting line. This is an easy way for you to get out of your own way and give yourself the best possible odds to hit a successful golf shot.

Step One

Pick out your target. This needs to be something very specific. There is no such thing as visualizing too much. If I were doing the drill I would say I am going to aim for the red flag. But not just the red flag, I want this ball to end up short of the red flag as well as right of the red flag.

Step Two

Determine what ball flight we are going to be using. I would go another step further and say that most golfers don't have a choice. (This is going to be your natural ball flight). After that we need to determine where we are going to start the ball in order for it to use our ball flight and land within our target.

Step Three

Give yourself whatever cue you have chosen, trust the process, execute.

If you fail, stay in your golf shot and determine what you are going to do differently the next time.

The above discipline is the discipline that is required to play your best golf on any given day!

If you successfully hit your golf shot, stand there, appreciate it, and then go through the entire process again.

There are a few things that I want to make sure we are paying attention to.

1. The duration at which this process takes. I believe that if I do this properly, it should take no less than 40 seconds. This is how we are going to implement the quality over quantity when we are on the driving range. We are also establishing a process in which we are controlling our mind on every driving range shot, thus making it easier to transfer when we head to the course.

2. I want you to notice what information we are concerned with. In this drill we are solely focused on:
 - our target
- where we want the ball to stop
- our start line
- our pre-shot process
- holding our finish

Within focusing on these aspects, you will begin to allow yourself more mental freedom on the golf course.
