Risk (noun): uncertainty about the effects/implications of an activity with the respect to something that humans often value, often focusing on negative, undesirable consequences.

Risk Management

The most important thing to remember before deciding to hit a shot that would be considered "risky" for your game is:
If you are going to take a risk, you must be mentally prepared to fail.

First things first, we need to determine how we can put ourselves in a position to succeed with the above quote. You must have the courage to take the risk. It is within taking a risk that we build confidence, thus leading to taking more risks. What do I mean by this exactly?

When you are faced with these stressful situations, it is truly fascinating what goes out the window. With that being said, it makes it that much more important to focus on the things that we can control. You are on an island on the golf course and the only person you can turn to for help is yourself. What tools are you going to remind yourself, "hey I got this in my back pocket"? Using statements like "You know how to do this" or "you've done this before" are easy ways to convince yourself that you are in fact prepared for this moment.
Risky Business

In order to improve our stress management when discussing risk taking, it is important to understand the two main types of stress.

Only 2 methods to deal with chronic stress

1. Be present
* You are in the "now".
*You are aware of your of your abilities/limitations and you are "being" with it.
* We don't always have our "best stuff" but knowing that and not forcing the issue is what makes us successful.

2. Be absent
*Either too far in the future or too far in the past.
*Essentially you are running away from the stress right in front of you.
*This would be not having your best stuff but expecting to perform as if you did or how you once have in the past.

Positive & Negative Compounding

Being able to navigate chronic stress is the difference between being cool, calm, and collected or being scattered, worried, and fearful.

Your wisdom and ability to coach yourself happens in the present . You cannot outlast or wait out chronic stress. The fear will always win.

YOUR POWER ALWAYS LIES IN THE PRESENT MOMENT
